Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Special Edition
EA2/7/2012

Only 2,000 copies across all platforms. Pre-order exclusive through the official store. No retail, no second wave, no exceptions. The Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Special Edition on PC is the kind of limited run that collectors live for, a carefully assembled box of physical goods tied to one of gaming's most fascinating what-if stories.

Inside the sealed cardboard box you get a parchment map of the Faelands, an Amalur-themed seven-piece dice set with a matching dice bag, a full set of 40 Destiny Cards, the game's soundtrack, and a Fate-Touched Weapons Pack DLC for bonus XP during Fate Shift kills. The dice set and Destiny Cards are standout pieces. They feel pulled from a tabletop RPG that exists somewhere in the Amalur universe, giving the whole package an in-world authenticity that most collector's editions struggle to achieve.

Kingdoms of Amalur was built by a dream team, R.A. Salvatore on lore, Todd McFarlane on art direction, Ken Rolston of Elder Scrolls fame on design, and backed by a studio that burned bright and collapsed fast. 38 Studios went bankrupt months after launch, freezing the franchise in amber and turning every piece of physical Amalur merchandise into an artifact of ambition.

With only 2,000 units split across PC, PS3, and Xbox 360, the PC allocation was likely a fraction of that total. Finding one complete, with all cards and dice accounted for, is a genuine challenge. This is the edition for collectors who appreciate when a game's real-world story is almost as compelling as the one on the disc.
