Ultracore Collector's Edition (PS5)

PLAYSTATION 5
Ultracore Collector's Edition (PS5)
Strictly Limited Games

A run-and-gun platformer that spent 25 years as nothing more than a rumor finally gets the collector's treatment it was denied in the '90s. The Ultracore Collector's Edition for PlayStation 5 is a Strictly Limited Games exclusive, limited to only 1,000 copies worldwide. Originally developed under the name "Hardcore" by Digital Illusions (yes, the studio that would eventually become DICE), this was a Mega Drive game that got shelved right before release and vanished into myth.

What we got when it finally resurfaced is a pure, unfiltered blast of '90s side-scrolling action. Tight controls, satisfying gunplay, sprawling levels, and a soundtrack that sounds exactly like the era that produced it. This isn't a remaster smoothed over with modern conveniences. It's the real deal, preserved and finally playable on PS5 for those of us who appreciate games from an era when "hardcore" was a design philosophy, not a marketing buzzword.

The collector's edition keeps things focused. The magnetic-latch box contains the game with manual, a "1994 Edition" soundtrack CD capturing the original audio, a "2019 Edition" double-CD with the updated soundtrack, Ultracore stickers, and a large A2 poster. Two different soundtrack presentations for a game that technically never had a commercial release is the kind of detail that shows someone cared about getting this right.

One thousand copies. A game that technically didn't exist for a quarter century. This is the collector's edition for the collector who wants something genuinely rare, not artificially scarce. Ultracore earned its mythical status the hard way.
