GENESIS
Steel Empire (Genesis Compatible Game)
Strictly Limited Games

The Motorhead Empire isn't going to overthrow itself. Steel Empire for Genesis, released as a compatible cartridge through Strictly Limited Games, is limited to 800 individually numbered copies worldwide and comes complete with a colorful game manual. This is the original 1992 classic, reborn on a fresh cart.

What made Steel Empire special back in the day wasn't just its tight controls or satisfying weapon systems. It was the world. While every other shmup was chasing sci-fi corridors and alien hives, Steel Empire built a steampunk civilization and let you blow it apart from two different airships. The genre was crowded on the Genesis, and this game still managed to carve out its own identity.

At 800 copies, this run is larger than the Mega Drive variant but still firmly in limited territory. For those of us who grew up during the console wars, there's something deeply satisfying about sliding a new Genesis cartridge out of its packaging. No downloads, no patches, no updates. Just a cart, a manual, and the satisfaction of owning one of the 16-bit era's most distinctive shooters in a format that'll outlast every hard drive you own.
