Jitsu Squad Collector’s Edition (PS4)

PLAYSTATION 4
Jitsu Squad Collector’s Edition (PS4)
Strictly Limited Games

The PS4 generation gave us some of the best indie brawlers in years, and Jitsu Squad might be the wildest of the bunch. The Jitsu Squad Collector's Edition for PlayStation 4 takes a game built on 90s arcade fighter DNA and wraps it in a collector's package stuffed with physical goods that match its chaotic energy.

Inside this box you'll find the PS4 game with manual, an artbook, the original soundtrack, an acrylic diorama, a reversible poster, postcard set, sticker sheet, a headband, hand fan, hand surfboard, and a paperwheel. It's an eclectic mix that mirrors the game's own refusal to play it safe. The acrylic diorama and artbook are the display centerpieces, but that headband is going to see some use during four-player couch sessions.

The game itself is pure adrenaline. A 2D action brawler with four playable characters, each with unique upgrade paths and secondary weapons that unlock new combo routes. Over 100 chain combos, infinite juggles, and super specials keep the combat system deep enough that mastering it takes real commitment. The storyline throws a demon-possessed stone, cursed animal warriors, and a sorcerer named Origami into a blender, and the soundtrack by Crush 40's Johnny Gioeli ties it all together.

This Collector's Edition is exclusively through ININ, independent of the developer Tanuki Creative's Kickstarter campaign. For those of us who grew up pumping quarters into Capcom cabinets and dreaming of owning that experience at home, Jitsu Squad on PS4 brings that feeling full circle. The disc-era collector's edition is a format that won't last forever, and packages this loaded are worth securing while they exist.
