Green Day and Rock Band walked into a bar, and somehow the result was one of the better band-specific rhythm games of the PS3 era. The Green Day RockBand Plus edition for Playstation 3 takes the standard package and makes it actually worth owning by including an export code that lets you transfer the entire tracklist to your hard drive for use in the main Rock Band game. On top of that, you get codes for six additional Green Day tracks from the Rock Band Store.

For collectors who lived through the plastic instrument boom, this is a time capsule. The Plus edition represents a very specific moment in gaming history when the rhythm genre was still alive and publishers were experimenting with how to bundle digital content alongside physical media. Those export and DLC codes are almost certainly expired by now, which makes sealed copies an interesting conversation piece. You're essentially holding a disc that once unlocked a small empire of content, now frozen in amber.

The PS3 disc-based era had a wonderful habit of producing these "enhanced" editions that flew under the radar. While everyone was fighting over Call of Duty prestige editions, stuff like this quietly hit shelves and quietly disappeared. If you're building a complete Rock Band collection or you're a Green Day fan who appreciates the crossover between music and gaming culture, this Plus edition is worth hunting down. It sits in that sweet spot between common enough to find and uncommon enough to feel like a real pickup.
