Some collectors want a steelbook. Others want a handmade wooden treasure chest branded with zombie insignia. The Dead Island Treasure Edition for Xbox 360 is the kind of absurd, beautiful excess that makes this hobby worth it.

Inside that wooden box (measuring roughly 390 x 270 x 100 mm, for those of us who plan shelf space down to the millimeter) you'll find a high quality polo shirt in Dead Island design, a double-sided A2 poster, three exclusive postcards, and the Bloodbath Arena DLC with a special weapon unlock. But the real conversation piece is the included copy of Max Brooks' "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks," the 144-page comic book that grounds this whole package in zombie lore legitimacy. The German edition of Brooks' work, specifically, which only adds to the regional scarcity factor.

This is mid-gen collecting at its finest. The Xbox 360 era gave us physical goods that publishers actually put thought into, before everything became a digital code and a pin. That wooden chest isn't injection-molded plastic.

It's handmade, branded, and built to look like something you'd pry open on a tropical island overrun with the undead. On a shelf full of standard game cases, the Treasure Edition doesn't just stand out. It dominates.

If you missed this one at launch, finding a complete set with the shirt still folded and the postcards untouched is the kind of hunt that keeps us in the game.
