Dead Island Treasure Edition

A handmade wooden treasure box branded with Dead Island's logo. That's either the most committed collector's edition packaging of 2011 or the most elaborate way anyone's ever sold a polo shirt. The Dead Island Treasure Edition for PlayStation 3 goes all in on the "castaway survival" fantasy, housing its contents in a branded wooden crate measuring roughly 390 by 270 by 100 millimeters.

Inside that box you'll find a high-quality polo shirt in Dead Island design (size large), Max Brooks' "The Zombie Survival Guide: Recorded Attacks" comic book in German (144 pages), a double-sided A2 poster, three exclusive postcards, and DLC for the Bloodbath Arena plus one special weapon. The German-language comic and the sheer physicality of the wooden box point to this being a German or Central European market exclusive, which makes it a regional gem for international collectors. The Max Brooks comic is a legitimate piece of zombie fiction from the author of World War Z, not some throwaway pack-in booklet.

The wooden crate itself is the real trophy, though. It's handmade, branded, and substantial enough to repurpose as actual storage. Most collector's editions give you cardboard that you're afraid to breathe on.
