The Call of Duty 2 Deluxe Edition on Xbox 360 keeps things simple. Standard keep case, game disc, and an Xbox Live Marketplace code for two additional multiplayer maps. That's the whole package.

Call of Duty 2 was a launch title for the Xbox 360, and for many of us, it was the first game that made next-gen feel real. The multiplayer was a revelation in late 2005, and those two bonus maps extended the experience for players who found the Deluxe Edition on store shelves. The code is almost certainly expired or redeemed at this point, but it represents an early experiment in how console publishers would distribute post-launch content through retail bundles.

There's no fancy packaging to distinguish this from the standard version at a glance, which makes it an easy one to overlook in the wild. The code insert is the telltale sign, and it's the first thing that gets lost or discarded. For Xbox 360 launch-era collectors, the Deluxe Edition matters because of what it represents: one of the console's defining titles with a small but meaningful addition that documents the very beginning of the DLC era on Microsoft's platform. It won't dominate a display shelf, but it fills a specific historical slot in any serious 360 collection. The game that sold a generation of consoles deserves its variant accounted for.
