Criterion took the open-world racing genre and redefined it, then had the audacity to make it even better. Burnout Paradise The Ultimate Box on PlayStation 3 is the definitive version of one of the most beloved racing games ever made, packaging the base game with a mountain of content updates including the Cagney Pack, Burnout Bikes with dynamic weather and day/night cycling, 70 new freeburn challenges, the Party Pack for pass-the-pad multiplayer, new cars, fan-created paint jobs, and online modes like Stunt Run, Marked Man, and Road Rage. This wasn't a lazy Game of the Year re-release.

It was a statement that Paradise City still had more to give. The Bikes pack alone changed the entire feel of the game, introducing motorcycles with their own physics model and a weather system that affected how every race played out. The Party Pack added local multiplayer to a game that had been built around online play, proving Criterion listened to its community.

In the PS3 era, before season passes and live-service models became the norm, The Ultimate Box represented the ideal: a complete package on a single disc, no downloads required. It's a snapshot of how games used to handle post-launch content, everything included, nothing held back. For racing game collectors, this is the version that belongs on the shelf.
