SNK's premier fighting franchise came out swinging one last time for the sprite-based faithful. The King of Fighters XIII First Edition on PlayStation 3 bundled a 4-CD soundtrack with the standard game, sealed together as one package. No separate SKU, no mail-in redemption. Just walk into a store on launch day or have your pre-order locked in, and the First Edition was yours.

That simplicity is actually what makes this one appealing. All pre-orders and release day purchases were automatically upgraded, which sounds generous until you realize that window has been closed for well over a decade. KOF XIII is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful 2D fighters ever made, with hand-drawn sprite work that took SNK's team painstaking hours per frame. The four-disc soundtrack does that visual artistry justice, capturing the electric energy of a series that built its reputation in smoky arcades across the world.

For PS3-era fighting game collectors, this sits in an interesting spot. It wasn't marketed as a flashy limited edition with statues and steelbooks. It was a quiet, first-run reward for the loyal. And now that disc-based PS3 collecting has become its own dedicated pursuit, finding a sealed First Edition with all four CDs intact is the kind of hunt that separates casual shelf-fillers from real collectors. The King of Fighters XIII deserved better commercial success than it got, which only makes this First Edition feel more like a well-kept secret among those who know.
