Switch Limited Run #68: Black Bird Collector's Edition

A dead girl reborn as an apocalyptic bird of doom. That's not a metal album synopsis, that's the premise of Switch Limited Run #68: Black Bird Collector's Edition for the Nintendo Switch. Onion Games crafted something genuinely strange here, a side-scrolling shoot-em-up wrapped in phantom opera aesthetics that feels like it crawled out of a fever dream you'd actually want to revisit.
The Collector's Edition does right by the weirdness. You're getting the physical cartridge, obviously, but the reversible 18" x 24" poster and art book are where this set earns its shelf space. The art direction in Black Bird is so distinct, so deliberately unsettling in its storybook grotesquerie, that having a dedicated art book feels less like a bonus and more like a necessity. The original soundtrack on physical media seals the deal. This game's music is haunting, theatrical, and completely unlike anything else in your Switch library.
Limited Run's early Switch releases have a habit of quietly appreciating while collectors sleep on them. Number 68 puts this squarely in that sweet spot of the catalog where supply dried up long ago but awareness keeps climbing. The region-free cartridge sitting in that numbered case is the kind of thing you pull off the shelf to show someone when they think they've seen everything the Switch has to offer. They haven't. Not until they've seen this bird.
