SaGa Frontier 2 (Square Millennium Collection)

The SaGa Frontier 2 Square Millennium Collection is the watercolor in a box. Squaresoft's Japan-only Millennium Collection reissue of SaGa Frontier 2 arrived in 2000 with a lily-themed teacup and saucer set and an original Gustave t-shirt featuring artwork of the game's deposed crown prince, packed in the trademark Square branded outer.
SaGa Frontier 2 was a hand-painted dream. Every background a watercolor. Every menu a brushstroke. The dual narrative between Gustave the disinherited prince and Wil Knights the treasure hunter, woven across a chronicle that spanned generations. The Combo system. The reroute mechanic that let stories diverge through years of in-game time. Yasunori Mitsuda's score doing things on the PS1 that nobody else could pull off.
The Gustave t-shirt is the standout. Gustave XIII himself, on the front, in full Roman Hubbard art style. Wearable Squaresoft history. Pair it with the lily teacup, a callback to the lily motif in Gustave's lineage, and you've got an edition where every bonus actually means something in-universe.
Series 1, released in 2000. Japan exclusive. Never localized officially, though SaGa Frontier 2 finally got an HD remaster decades later. Sealed copies of this set are getting hard to find.
For SaGa completists, this is the matching pair to the SaGa Frontier set. Buy them together and you own the SaGa Millennium chapter in full. For Squaresoft collectors, this is the artbook entry. The watercolor disc that belongs on display.
