Return to Monkey Island Collector's Edition (PC)
Limited Run Games

Ron Gilbert came back to Monkey Island, and they put it on a floppy disk. Well, sort of. The Return to Monkey Island Collector's Edition for PC leads with a floppy disk-styled USB drive containing the game, a detail so perfectly tuned to this franchise's history that it borders on poetic.

The collector's edition box houses an absurd wealth of goods: the original soundtrack, LeChuck's Onboarding Pamphlet, a letter from Ron Gilbert and Dave Grossman themselves, a scrapbook, a blowfish stress ball, a Chum's Lure pin, a collectible golden key, an 18" x 24" poster, and a booklet. Every item here feels like it was pulled from the game world rather than designed by a merch department. The onboarding pamphlet and the letter from the creators blur the line between collectible and keepsake in a way few editions manage.

That stress ball shaped like a blowfish is the kind of absurd, wonderful inclusion that makes you remember why point-and-click adventures had more personality than anything else on the shelf. This is a PC box set in the truest sense. It belongs next to your old LucasArts big boxes, closing a loop decades in the making.
