When Midway decided to throw Mortal Kombat's roster into a cage match with DC's finest, they had the good sense to give it a proper Kollector's Edition. The Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe Kollector's Edition on Xbox 360 is the premium package for one of the strangest crossovers in fighting game history, and that "K" in Kollector's tells you exactly whose house you're in.

MK vs DC was a gamble that somehow worked. The idea of Liu Kang trading blows with The Flash, or Shang Tsung facing off against Green Lantern, sounds like something cooked up in a fan forum at 2 AM. But Midway committed to the bit, building a full fighting game around the collision of two universes that had no business sharing a character select screen. The T rating meant toned-down fatalities, which hardcore MK fans still grumble about, but it also meant this was the most accessible Mortal Kombat in years. The Kollector's Edition recognized that this crossover event deserved more than a standard case.

The MK franchise has always known how to brand its premium editions. That signature "K" swap is collector shorthand at this point, instantly recognizable on any shelf. The Kollector's Edition arrived in November 2008, right in the thick of the 360's peak years when the console's library was expanding at a ridiculous pace. For fighting game collectors and MK completionists, this edition represents the franchise's most experimental phase. Before NetherRealm Studios was born from Midway's ashes and rebooted the series, there was this beautiful, bizarre detour into the DC Universe. The Kollector's Edition is how you own that detour properly.
