Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Fate of Two Worlds Special Edition

PLAYSTATION 3
Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Fate of Two Worlds Special Edition

Two rosters of beloved characters smashing into each other deserves more than a standard case, and the Marvel vs. Capcom 3 Fate of Two Worlds Special Edition on Playstation 3 delivers on that front. This special edition includes a prologue comic book that bridges the gap between the game's wild crossover premise and the Marvel universe proper, giving the roster clash some narrative weight for those who care about the "why" behind Wolverine fighting Ryu.

You also get a one-month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, which was a surprisingly forward-thinking inclusion for 2011. The real hook for collectors, though, is the DLC codes for Jill Valentine and Shuma-Gorath, two characters that were locked behind this edition and later sold separately. Shuma-Gorath in particular has become a cult favorite pick, the kind of obscure deep cut that only Marvel diehards even recognized.

For fighting game collectors and anyone who lived through the FGC renaissance that MvC3 helped ignite, this special edition is a snapshot of a very specific, very electric moment in competitive gaming history. The disc-based PS3 era was the perfect home for it.
