Nothing says "limited run" quite like having to pre-order from a specific UK retailer to get your hands on a themed t-shirt and art cards. The Guitar Hero: Metallica Special Edition on Playstation 3 bundled the game with a Guitar Hero Metallica t-shirt, four art cards, and codes to unlock two bonus outfits, the 80's look and a zombie variant.

Guitar Hero: Metallica was the pinnacle of the band-specific spinoffs. Where some licensed rhythm games felt like cash grabs, this one was clearly built by people who understood why Metallica matters. The setlist pulled deep cuts alongside the hits, and the guest tracks were curated with taste. Playing "One" on expert difficulty remains one of the most satisfying accomplishments in rhythm gaming history.

This Special Edition was exclusive to HMV pre-orders, which is the kind of regional, retailer-locked scarcity that collectors live for. The t-shirt alone is a conversation piece. Gaming merchandise from specific editions tends to disappear into closets and donation bins, making surviving examples genuinely uncommon. The four art cards add display potential, and the outfit unlock codes serve as artifacts from an era when bonus content came on physical inserts rather than day-one patches. If you find one of these complete with all its contents, you're looking at a PS3-era collectible that most people don't even know exists. That's the sweet spot.
