Dead Space 3 Dev-Team Edition
EA2/5/2013Americas

Visceral Games saved their best packaging for last. The Dead Space 3 Dev-Team Edition on Playstation 3 is the definitive collector's release for the franchise's final original chapter, loaded with physical goods that feel like they were smuggled off an actual SCAF vessel. This PS3 special edition went all in on tangible, lore-driven extras that put most mid-gen collector's editions to shame.

The centerpiece is an 8-inch polyresin Black Marker statue, a faithful recreation of the franchise's most iconic and terrifying artifact. It's the kind of piece that anchors an entire display shelf. Alongside it sits an aluminum Data Pad that looks and feels like genuine SCAF equipment, a Med Pack Water Bottle ripped from the game's survival horror aesthetic, and a bound SCAF Jotter that could pass for actual military-issue field notes. Three SCAF posters and six Peng postcards round out the paper goods, because nothing says "we love our community" like referencing the franchise's most beloved hidden easter egg. A 96-page mini art book ties it all together with behind-the-scenes looks at the game's design.

This Dev-Team Edition is increasingly difficult to find complete. The Black Marker statue has become one of the more sought-after pieces in Dead Space collecting, and the sheer volume of physical items means many sets have been broken up over the years. A complete, well-kept Dev-Team Edition is the kind of PS3-era grail that tells everyone exactly where your horror loyalties lie.
