The Chrono Cross / Chrono Trigger Memorial Edition is the FamilyMart-exclusive grail that fewer than 3,000 collectors own. This Japan-only PS1 set bundles Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross inside a custom green slipcover, distributed only to fans who pre-ordered both titles at FamilyMart stores in Japan. The slipcased box arrived in the mail after the pre-order closed.

This is the single most exclusive Chrono Series item ever produced. Chrono Trigger has been re-released a dozen ways since 1995. The Memorial Edition slipcover has not. With a print run capped at 3,000, geographic restriction to a single Japanese convenience store chain, and a mail-order distribution that meant no chance of buying one off the shelf, this is the closest thing to a Chrono numbered edition that exists.

Both games inside are the standard Japanese releases, but it's the green slipcover that makes the set. Custom artwork bridging Trigger and Cross, the kind of object Square never reprinted and never licensed for any reissue. The two games together in their original Japanese packaging, in the case the original buyers received in 2000, is the heirloom version of a series fans have argued over for thirty years.

For Chrono collectors, this is the endpoint of the hunt. For Square completists, this is the piece that closes the Square era. For everyone else, this is the kind of edition that justifies the word "grail".
