Parasite Eve 2 (Square Millennium Collection)

Aya Brea's perfume bottle on a shelf is exactly the energy. The Parasite Eve 2 Square Millennium Collection is Squaresoft's Japan-only PS1 reissue of the survival horror RPG, packed with a perfume bottle modeled after Aya herself and a Shaku Yumiko trading card featuring the actress who portrayed her in the original Japanese promotional campaign.
Parasite Eve 2 was the moment Squaresoft fully leaned into Resident Evil territory, traded the random encounter battle system of the first game for tank controls and ammo conservation, and gave us one of the most underrated survival horror games on the PS1. The Mojave Desert sequences. The Akropolis. The hotel. Aya's mitochondrial powers. We played this with the lights on, then with the lights off when we got brave.
The perfume bottle is what makes this set. It's modeled around Aya, the kind of in-universe object that crosses the line from licensed merch into something that looks like it belongs in the game world. Pair it with the Shaku Yumiko trading card and you have the rare collector edition that operates on two fan tracks at once, the game character and her real-world face, both preserved in physical form.
Series 3, released November 30, 2000. Japan exclusive. Sealed copies are real estate. For Parasite Eve fans, the Aya perfume bottle is the holy grail. For Squaresoft horror completists, this is the entry that bridges the company's RPG roots with their brief survival horror moment.
