Tales of Monkey Island Collector's Edition
3/31/2011

Guybrush Threepwood's return deserved more than a standard box, and the Tales of Monkey Island Collector's Edition for PC delivered pirate treasure in the most literal sense. Telltale packaged the full season on a Collector's DVD alongside an embarrassment of physical riches that feel like they fell out of a LucasArts time capsule. The slipcover features art from Steve Purcell, the legend behind the original Monkey Island box art, which alone puts this in a different tier.

Inside, you'll find a cotton fabric map of the Gulf of Melange (because real pirates don't do paper), a metal Piece of Eight coin with satisfying weight, an exclusive Voodoo card unavailable in the standalone card set, a Club 41 coaster for your grog, and a souvenir button from the Trial of the Century. Every item feels pulled from the game world itself rather than slapped together in a marketing meeting. The craftsmanship here leans into that handmade, adventure-game charm that made Monkey Island a touchstone for an entire generation of PC gamers.

For point-and-click collectors, this is a grail-tier package. The Purcell artwork, the exclusive Voodoo card, the fabric map. These are the kinds of details that separate a collector's edition from a box with extra stuff in it.
