Limited Run Games

The blob is back, and this time it brought a friend. Switch Limited Run #175: A Boy and His Blob Retro Collection Collector's Edition for Nintendo Switch bundles both the NES original and its Game Boy sequel, The Rescue of Princess Blobette, into one physical package that spans the full jellybean-fueled saga. The retro box wraps both games in the kind of nostalgic packaging that immediately transports you back to Saturday mornings and rented cartridges.

Two mini game cart keychains let you carry tiny tributes to both titles on your keys, bag, or wherever you display your loyalties. The soundtrack covers both games, which means you get the Blobolonia melodies and the Blobette compositions in one listen. David Crane's original concept, a puzzle platformer built entirely around feeding flavored candy to an alien, remains one of gaming's most endearingly weird ideas.

The fact that it spawned a sequel, a Wii reimagining, and now a dedicated retro collection proves the concept had legs (or, more accurately, a blob that could turn into legs if you threw the right jellybean). For collectors who already grabbed the NES Collector's Edition, this is the companion piece that rounds out the set. For everyone else, this is the entry point into one of gaming's most charmingly offbeat franchises.
