Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition

PLAYSTATION 3
Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition
REGION 2

Chris Redfield's biceps deserve a gold frame, and that's essentially what Capcom delivered here. The Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition for Playstation 3 comes in a standard case wrapped in a gold-colored slipcover and includes a bonus content disc loaded with four new campaign episodes, Versus Mode, Mercenary "Reunion" Mode, and additional characters and costumes for Mercenaries.

This was Capcom's definitive statement on RE5, the "we're done, here's everything" package. That bonus disc is the real draw. The additional campaign episodes, including the fan-favorite Lost in Nightmares chapter, added genuine narrative weight to an already massive game. Mercenaries Reunion threw in new characters and remixed the already addictive score-attack mode. All of it on a physical disc, not locked behind a storefront.

The gold slipcover is what elevates this from a simple complete edition to a collector's piece. It's eye-catching without being gaudy, and it instantly distinguishes itself on a shelf full of standard black PS3 cases. The PS3 era loved its slipcover variants, and this is one of the better-executed ones. Clean, thematic, and tied to one of the console's biggest franchises.

For Resident Evil collectors, the Gold Edition is a must-own. It represents RE5 in its final, complete form with physical extras that make it worth displaying. Finding copies with the slipcover in pristine condition is the real challenge, as cardboard sleeves and years of shelf life aren't always kind to each other.
