Rayman Legends might be the most beautiful 2D platformer ever made, and now it has a case that matches. The Rayman Legends SteelBook Edition on Xbox 360 bundles the standard game with an empty G1 SteelBook case, giving collectors a proper metal home for one of the generation's finest side-scrollers.

This edition had exclusive retail distribution in both the UK through HMV and in France through Micromania, tying it to two storefronts with very different fates. HMV's turbulent retail history means stock from their exclusive runs has a way of becoming unexpectedly scarce, while Micromania editions carry that French market charm that appeals to European variant hunters.

The G1 SteelBook arrived empty alongside the standard case, giving you the choice of display or function. Some collectors keep both versions on the shelf. Others transplant the disc and go all-metal. Either way, the SteelBook treatment suits Rayman's vibrant art style, translating Michel Ancel's painterly visuals onto a surface that catches light differently than standard plastic ever could.

Rayman Legends was a critical darling that deserved a bigger commercial footprint than it got, and collector's editions for underappreciated masterpieces tend to age very well. The game's reputation has only grown since launch, while the supply of these SteelBooks hasn't grown at all. For platformer enthusiasts and SteelBook collectors alike, this is one of those quiet editions that rewards patience and persistence.
