A soundtrack, a strategy guide, and a pack of mystery monster cards. Ragnarok Odyssey Mercenary Edition on PlayStation Vita understood that action RPG fans on the Vita were a particular breed, and it catered to us accordingly. This edition shipped with a soundtrack CD capturing the game's orchestral score, a Mercenary Guide filled with artwork and winning strategies, and a randomized pack of 10 Monster Cards drawn from a total pool of 50.

Ragnarok Odyssey brought the hunting-action genre to Vita early in the console's life, offering that "one more quest" loop that made the handheld disappear into long commutes and longer weekends. The Mercenary Guide doubles as an art book, making it a shelf piece that earns its space. But those Monster Cards are where it gets interesting for collectors.

Ten random cards out of fifty means nobody got the same pack, and completing the full set requires either patience or a willingness to hunt down other Mercenary Edition owners. That randomized element turns a standard bonus into a genuine collecting challenge. The soundtrack CD preserves the game's score in physical form, which matters more every year as digital-only releases become the norm.

Ragnarok Odyssey might not have the name recognition of Monster Hunter, but the Mercenary Edition gave it a collector's package that holds its own against anything in the genre.
