Ninja Gaiden Sigma Collector's Edition

Here's one that slipped through the cracks for a lot of collectors, and that's exactly what makes it dangerous. The Ninja Gaiden Sigma Collector's Edition for PlayStation 3 came in a thin cardboard sleeve housing the standard game plus a bonus DVD called "Behind the Sword," featuring a making-of documentary.

The real story is the availability. This was produced in small quantities, sold exclusively through EB Games and GameStop in the USA, and only available as a pre-order. That's three layers of scarcity stacked on top of each other. Small run. Single retailer. Pre-order only. The kind of distribution model that creates genuine rarity rather than manufactured hype.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma was the definitive version of one of the most punishing, rewarding action games ever made. Ryu Hayabusa's PS3 debut looked incredible and played even better, bridging the gap between the Xbox era and a new generation. The "Behind the Sword" documentary captures a studio at the height of its craft, and physical bonus discs from this era are the kind of extras that simply don't exist anymore.

For PS3 collectors, this is a low-key rarity that most people don't even know exists. Complete copies with the sleeve in good condition are scarce, and that limited production run means the supply isn't getting any deeper.
