Before the franchise became a yearly rotation of modern combat scenarios, Medal of Honor went back to its roots and tried something genuinely ambitious. The Medal of Honor Limited Edition on PlayStation 3 is a fascinating collector's artifact, a reboot that shipped with an HD remastered copy of Medal of Honor: Frontline tucked right inside the case. Two games, two eras, one disc package. That alone makes this worth hunting down.

The Limited Edition also delivered early access to the Battlefield 3 Beta, which at the time felt like holding a golden ticket. You got early unlocks for the TOZ194 and 870MCS shotguns in multiplayer, plus the MP7, a weapon exclusive to this edition. The Special Ops character skin was similarly locked to Limited Edition owners. This was EA and Danger Close trying to reclaim Medal of Honor's identity during the height of the PS3/360 war, and the inclusion of Frontline HD was a genuine love letter to fans who remembered storming Omaha Beach on the PS2. The remaster alone justified the package. For collectors, this sits at an interesting crossroads: a modern military shooter carrying the DNA of one of the genre's founding franchises. The Battlefield 3 Beta access is obviously long expired, but the Frontline remaster remains playable and excellent. A two-for-one piece of FPS history.
