Max Payne has been through a lot, but at least his statue looks good. The Max Payne 3 Special Edition on PlayStation 3 is Rockstar Games at their most premium, pairing the noir shooter's brutal conclusion with a 10-inch collectible statue that captures everything painful and poetic about gaming's most tortured protagonist. This is the kind of set that turns a shelf into a crime scene.

The statue, created in collaboration between TriForce and Rockstar, stands at 10 inches and depicts Max in all his weathered, world-weary glory. You also get a series of game-inspired original still life art prints depicting Max's inner demons and vices, a copper and brass-plated iron bullet-shaped keychain with a screw-off back, and the Classic Multiplayer Character Pack featuring eight playable characters from across the Max Payne trilogy.

TriForce's work on the statue is the anchor of this entire edition. The sculpt quality captures the worn-down, Sao Paulo-heat version of Max with enough detail to make it one of the better protagonist statues from the PS3 era. The still life art prints are an unexpectedly classy inclusion, treating Max's alcoholism and grief not as shock content but as genuine artistic subject matter. That's a very Rockstar move. The bullet keychain, with its real metal weight and screw-off design, has the kind of tactile quality that makes you reach for it every time you pass your display. Max Payne 3 was the end of a trilogy that defined slow-motion gunplay, and this Special Edition gives that legacy proper physical weight.
