GalaxyTrail's furry answer to Sonic just hit differently on PS4. Limited Run #262: Freedom Planet Deluxe Edition for PlayStation 4 packages one of the best indie platformers of the 2010s into a physical release that actually understands what we want on the shelf. This isn't some bare-bones disc in a case and a pat on the back.

The Deluxe Edition comes sealed with full-color interior art, a reversible 18" x 24" poster, and an original multi-disc soundtrack CD for a game whose music absolutely earned the physical treatment. But the real headliner here is the commemorative retro Genesis-style clamshell case. That detail matters.

Freedom Planet started life as a Sonic fan game, and wrapping it in the same shell format that housed the hedgehog's 16-bit adventures is the kind of self-aware reverence that collectors live for. It's a love letter inside a love letter. The PS4 disc era gave us some of Limited Run's most thoughtful releases, and #262 sits comfortably in that lineage.
