Final Fantasy XIII-2 (Slipcase Edition)
Square Enix2/3/2012REGION 2

First impressions matter, and Final Fantasy XIII-2 made sure its first print run looked the part. The Final Fantasy XIII-2 Slipcase Edition on Playstation 3 is the initial release variant, distinguished by a cardboard slipcase (sometimes called an O-ring) wrapped around the standard game case. That's it. No bonus discs, no art books. Just the slipcase.

And yet, this is exactly the kind of variant collectors obsess over. The Slipcase Edition was never sold sealed in the traditional sense. The outer slipcase came open while the game inside maintained its factory seal. That quirk alone creates confusion in the secondary market, which means informed collectors have an edge when hunting for genuinely untouched copies.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 improved on its predecessor in nearly every way. The time-travel narrative, the monster collection system, the faster combat. It was Square Enix listening to feedback and delivering a sequel that earned its place in the PS3 RPG library. The first print slipcase marks this as the version that was on shelves when fans lined up to give Lightning's world a second chance.

For PS3 Final Fantasy collectors, the slipcase variant is a subtle but meaningful distinction. It separates early adopters from later buyers at a glance. On a shelf of PS3 RPGs, that slim cardboard sleeve signals you were there from the start, and you kept the packaging intact when so many others tossed it aside.
