Far Cry 2 (Collector Pack)

Some games let you visit Africa. This one let you burn it down. The Far Cry 2 Collector Pack for PC arrived during a golden era of boxed PC gaming, bundling Ubisoft's relentlessly hostile open-world shooter with a handful of physical extras that felt genuinely considered.

The 22-page Art of Far Cry 2 book is compact but packed with environmental concepts and character sketches that show just how deliberately oppressive that world was designed to be. The Making-Of DVD pulls back the curtain on a studio that was clearly obsessed with simulating a place that wanted you dead. You also get a large Far Cry 2 t-shirt and a game map/poster that doubles as a reminder of how much ground you covered while cursing at malaria pills and respawning checkpoints.

This isn't one of those collector's editions drowning in tchotchkes. It's lean, curated, and very much a product of its time, back when PC special editions came in oversized boxes that demanded shelf real estate. For collectors who appreciate the era when shooters tried to be something more than corridor crawlers, the Far Cry 2 Collector Pack is a satisfying artifact.

The kind of package that earns its spot on the shelf.
