Evolve (Special Edition)

Four hunters, one monster, zero second chances. Evolve was the asymmetric multiplayer game that swung for the fences, and the Evolve Special Edition on PlayStation 4 packaged that ambition with collector flair. The steelcase alone sets it apart from the standard release, but the real draw is the set of five class wristbands and five class pin badges representing each hunter role.
Assault, Trapper, Medic, Support, and of course the Monster. These are tangible tokens of a game that asked players to pick a role and commit to it. The Monster Expansion Pack DLC and Instant Hunter Pack DLC added roster depth on the digital side, expanding the hunt beyond what shipped on disc.
Evolve occupies a unique spot in PS4 history. It was a game built entirely around cooperative tension, where every match played out like a sci-fi survival film. The fact that it ultimately went free-to-play and then offline makes the original physical Special Edition a strange and fascinating artifact.
You can't go back and experience launch-window Evolve, but you can own the package that shipped with all that wild optimism baked in. The wristbands and pins have a tactile charm that photographs don't quite capture. They're small, well-made, and they represent a game that took a genuine creative risk during a console generation that often played it safe.
For collectors who appreciate the weird and wonderful corners of PS4 history, this is a set worth tracking down.
