Eschatos Special Limited Edition (PlayStation 4)
Strictly Limited Games

Qute's Eschatos has lived in "best SHMUP ever made" conversations for over a decade, and most Western collectors have never been able to hold a physical copy. That changes now. The Eschatos Special Limited Edition for PlayStation 4 is a Strictly Limited Games exclusive limited to just 700 numbered copies worldwide, making it one of the tightest print runs you'll find for a game of this caliber.

Originally a Japan-only Xbox 360 release in 2011, Eschatos is a polygonal vertical shooter built around three elegant weapon types: a focused front shot, a spread wide shot, and a close-range shield that doubles as a devastating attack. The genius is in the simplicity. Five difficulty settings ease you in, then Original Mode, Advanced Mode, and Time Attack Mode ensure you never stop chasing mastery. Bundled alongside are its two spiritual predecessors, Judgement Silversword and Cardinal Sins, both originally WonderSwan exclusives and both remarkable shooters in their own right. The PS4 version adds remastered audio, improved load times, and performance upgrades that make this the definitive way to experience all three.

The Special Limited Edition box is loaded. You get a three-disc soundtrack covering Eschatos (original and arranged) plus Judgement Silversword, including previously unreleased and cut tracks. There's a miniature replica of the original WonderSwan box for Judgement Silversword, a laminated instruction card desk pad, WonderSwan cartridge label stickers, and four mosaic-style mini posters. At 700 copies, this is the kind of release that vanishes fast and ages well. If Qute's legacy means anything to you, and it should, this belongs behind glass.
