Dragon Age Origins Collector's Edition
EA11/20/2009REGION 2

BioWare's dark fantasy epic deserved a collector's treatment, and Europe answered the call. The Dragon Age Origins Collector's Edition on Playstation 3 ships in either a SteelBook or plastic case depending on your region, with a plastic slip cover unifying the exterior look. Inside you'll find a bonus DVD packed with behind-the-scenes content, a code for downloadable content, and, for most European territories, a cloth map of Ferelden.

That cloth map is the piece that elevates this from "nice extras" to genuine collector territory. There's something about an actual fabric map that connects you to the RPG tradition in a way no digital bonus ever could. It recalls an era when PC RPGs shipped with physical maps you'd unfold on your desk, and BioWare clearly knew their audience.

The regional variance adds another layer of intrigue. UK copies came in a plastic case without the cloth map, while the rest of Europe received the SteelBook with the map included. That split means completionists might want both variants, and it makes the SteelBook version with the cloth map the definitive pickup for display purposes.

Dragon Age as a franchise has only grown in cultural significance, and Origins remains the entry that hardcore RPG fans point to as the series at its best. This Collector's Edition from the PS3 era captures that moment perfectly, back when BioWare could do no wrong and physical extras still meant something tangible.
