Sometimes the pre-order bonus is the edition. The Deus Ex Human Revolution Pre-Order Edition for Xbox 360 shipped with the Explosive Mission Pack and three exclusive in-game tools: the Automatic Unlocking Device, the M-28 Utility Remote-Detonated Explosive Device (the gloriously named UR-DED), and the Linebacker G-87 Multiple Shot Grenade Launcher. No art book, no soundtrack, no figure.

Just a mission and the firepower to approach it however you wanted. The Explosive Mission Pack is the real value here. An additional scenario with narrative substance that expanded the campaign beyond what the standard disc offered.

The weapons complemented different playstyles: the Unlocking Device for stealth purists who wanted to bypass every lock, the UR-DED for the chaos-minded, and the Linebacker for anyone who thought Jensen's default arsenal was too subtle. Pre-order editions from the 360 era occupy a strange space in collecting. They're technically the same physical disc and case as the standard release, differentiated only by a code insert or an on-disc unlock.

That makes complete, unused copies surprisingly scarce. Most people redeemed the codes immediately, which means a sealed Pre-Order Edition with its DLC voucher intact is functionally a different product than the opened version sitting in bargain bins. For Deus Ex completionists working through every SKU, this is a necessary checkbox.

For everyone else, it's a reminder that the 360 generation treated pre-orders as genuine content drops, not just cosmetic palette swaps.
