Defiance Limited Edition
A shooter that tried to merge MMO persistence with live television. The Defiance Limited Edition on Xbox 360 launched alongside the Syfy television series of the same name, and while the servers have long since gone dark, the Limited Edition still carries a certain curiosity factor for collectors. This version came with an exclusive Volter Shotgun and 500 Bits of in-game currency.
Obviously, neither of those has functional value anymore, but that's precisely what makes this an interesting shelf piece. It's a snapshot of a very specific moment in gaming history when publishers were convinced that cross-media experiences were the future. The 360 era was full of these ambitious swings, games that reached for something weird and unprecedented, and Defiance was one of the weirdest.
For collectors who document the Xbox 360's sprawling library or anyone fascinated by games-as-cultural-experiments, the Limited Edition is a conversation starter.
