Darius Cozmic Collection Console (PS4)

Console ports of Darius games have always carried a certain mystique, partly because each version adapted the arcade experience in wildly different ways. The Darius Cozmic Collection Console for PlayStation 4 collects nine versions of six legendary console titles in one Strictly Limited Games exclusive package, limited to 1,900 individually numbered copies worldwide. This is a deep cut for the serious collector.

The tracklist is staggering: Mega Drive, Genesis, Master System, Super Famicom, Super NES, and PC Engine versions all represented, including the almost mythically rare DARIUS ALPHA for PC Engine. Each port tells a different story about how developers wrestled these massive arcade experiences onto home hardware, and the differences between regional versions (DARIUS FORCE versus SUPER NOVA, for example) are fascinating case studies in localization-era gaming. The SAGAIA enamel pin badge included with this edition is a nice physical anchor for the collection. With 1,900 copies on PS4, this sits in that sweet spot where it's scarce enough to matter but accessible enough that dedicated collectors can still track one down. For those of us building comprehensive PS4 libraries with an eye toward shmup history, this disc represents an entire era of console gaming preserved in a single, numbered case.
