Arc System Works has been hand-drawing some of the most gorgeous sprites in fighting game history, and the BlazBlue Continuum Shift EXTEND Limited Edition for Xbox 360 gives you the receipts. This is BlazBlue at its most refined, and this edition packages the experience with physical extras that anime fighter fans actually want on their shelves.

The 40-page art book is the main draw here. BlazBlue's character designs are dense with detail, layered costumes, intricate weapons, and expressions that somehow read perfectly at 1080p sprite resolution. Seeing that work blown up on printed pages reveals linework and color choices you'd never catch mid-combo. The soundtrack CD captures Daisuke Ishiwatari's influence on the series' musical DNA, a blend of hard rock and orchestral arrangements that holds up outside the game just as well as inside it. The 2012 calendar is a snapshot of the era, a novelty item that's long past its practical use but works as a display piece for the art alone.

The Xbox 360 was fighting game central during this generation. Street Fighter IV, Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and BlazBlue were all competing for your disc tray, and the community was thriving on Xbox Live matchmaking. Continuum Shift EXTEND represented the definitive version of BlazBlue's second chapter, packed with balance updates and new story content. The limited edition didn't need to oversell itself. It just needed to deliver quality physical goods to a fanbase that already knew what it wanted. Clean, focused, no filler. That's rare for any era of collector's editions.
