The Dark Knight gets the third dimension. Batman: Arkham Asylum Game of the Year Edition for PlayStation 3 took what was already the greatest superhero game ever made and added stereoscopic 3D support, four new Challenge Maps, and two pairs of 3D glasses right in the box. This PS3 GOTY release landed during that brief window when 3D gaming was Sony's obsession, and Rocksteady was happy to oblige.

The four additional Challenge Maps gave collectors more reasons to perfect their freeflow combat scores, extending the predator fantasy that made Arkham Asylum a revelation. But let's be honest, those 3D glasses are the real collector's item now. They're a perfect artifact of the PS3 era's most ambitious tech trend, a trend that burned bright and flamed out fast.

That makes them oddly precious. Arkham Asylum redefined what a licensed game could be. Before Rocksteady, superhero games were largely disposable tie-ins.

After Arkham Asylum, they were events. The GOTY Edition is the complete version of that paradigm shift, packaged with extras that capture a very specific moment in gaming history. For PS3 collectors, this sits comfortably in the "essential" tier, especially with those 3D glasses still sealed in their packaging.
