Assassin's Creed II Black Edition
Ubisoft11/20/2009REGION 2

Fifty thousand units. That's the rumored cap on one of the PS3 era's most loaded collector's editions. The Assassin's Creed II Black Edition on Playstation 3 arrives in collectible black packaging stamped with a holographic signature, housing a "Master Assassin" Ezio figurine wearing his upgraded cloak from the game's later stages, a 64-page leather-style conspiracy book with parchment-finish pages, the original soundtrack by BAFTA-nominated composer Jesper Kyd, three bonus in-game quests exploring Renaissance landmarks, and a disc packed with behind-the-scenes interviews and videos.

This was Ubisoft swinging for the fences during the franchise's creative peak, and every piece in this box reflects that ambition. The figurine alone outclasses the White Edition's version, depicting Ezio in his fully realized Master Assassin gear rather than his early-game outfit. That conspiracy book is genuinely impressive, a hardcover journal that looks like something pulled from a Templar archive, filled with developer insights and lore deep cuts.

Jesper Kyd's score for AC II remains one of gaming's all-time best, so having it on physical media is a serious flex for any shelf. com holding UK distribution rights, this edition was already geographically limited before factoring in the production cap. Finding one complete with all inserts and the outer box in presentable condition has become a legitimate hunt.

Assassin's Creed II is widely considered the moment the franchise became essential, and the Black Edition is how collectors remember it.
