The Aliens vs Predator Survivor Edition on Playstation 3 arrived as a stripped-back alternative to the Hunter Edition, offering a more accessible entry point into Rebellion's triple-threat shooter. For collectors who were there in February 2010, this was the edition that got the AvP franchise back on current-gen hardware after years of waiting.

What the Survivor Edition lacked in premium physical extras, it made up for by simply existing at the right time. The PS3 era was when licensed games still had a real shot at delivering something worthwhile, and Aliens vs. Predator let you play as three distinct species in a franchise that hadn't seen a proper console release in years. The Xenomorph, the Predator, the Colonial Marine. Three campaigns, three multiplayer factions, all wrapped in a property that collectors have been obsessing over since 1986.

The Survivor Edition represents the baseline collector's entry for this title, and in a market where the Hunter Edition commands higher prices and harder searches, having this version on your PS3 shelf still tells the right story. It says you were there when AvP came back, when Rebellion took another crack at balancing three completely different playstyles on one disc. For PS3 collectors building a comprehensive library of the console's genre releases, this is a slot that needs filling. The franchise deserved its moment on Sony's hardware, and this edition delivered it.
