Sometimes a collector's edition comes with something so unexpected that you have to double-check you're reading the contents list correctly. The Ace Combat Assault Horizon Helicopter Edition on Xbox 360 includes a 25-centimeter remote-controlled Black Hawk helicopter, and yes, it actually flies. This is one of those gloriously over-the-top limited editions that defined the 360 era's ambition.

Alongside the RC helicopter and its rechargeable battery, you get a remote control (batteries not included, naturally), a branded pen, and a branded keychain. The helicopter itself is the entire reason this edition exists. At roughly 10 inches, it's a legitimate display piece that doubles as a functional toy, which is a combination that most collector's editions never even attempt.

While other games were bundling artbooks and soundtrack CDs, Bandai Namco decided to put an aircraft in the box. The branded pen and keychain round out the package with everyday carry items that let you quietly signal your Ace Combat allegiance. They're small touches, but they show a commitment to theming that goes beyond the usual collector's fare.

Finding this edition complete with a working helicopter is the real challenge. These were produced in limited quantities, and the helicopter components are fragile enough that many surviving copies are missing pieces or have non-functional units. A complete, working Helicopter Edition is the kind of shelf piece that stops people mid-conversation.
