TomClancy's EndWar (SteelBook Edition)

PLAYSTATION 3
TomClancy's EndWar (SteelBook Edition)
REGION 2

Sometimes the simplest upgrade is the most satisfying. The Tom Clancy's EndWar SteelBook Edition on Playstation 3 takes the standard release and rehouses it in a SteelBook case, nothing more, nothing less. In Europe, this edition was exclusive to Play.com, a retailer that no longer exists, which adds a layer of unintentional scarcity to the equation.

EndWar was Ubisoft's attempt at bringing real-time strategy to consoles through voice commands. You could bark orders at your troops using a headset, directing battalions across World War III battlefields without touching the d-pad. It was ambitious, occasionally brilliant, and very much a product of its time. The concept of voice-controlled gaming felt futuristic in 2008, even if the execution was sometimes more frustrating than commanding.

The Play.com exclusivity is what makes this SteelBook interesting from a collector's standpoint. When a retailer goes under, its exclusive products stop being restocked permanently. There's no clearance bin, no warehouse sale, no second chance. Whatever units were sold are all that exist. SteelBooks from defunct retailers have a way of quietly appreciating as collectors realize the supply is truly fixed. The EndWar SteelBook itself carries the game's military aesthetic well, and it sits nicely alongside other Clancy-branded SteelBooks from the PS3 era. For Tom Clancy completionists or SteelBook collectors working through that generation, this is one of the harder pieces to locate.
