Atlus knew exactly what they were doing when they made every pre-order and launch day copy of Shin Megami Tensei Devil Summoner 2 Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon for PlayStation 2 an automatic upgrade to the First Edition. They rewarded the faithful, and now the rest of us have to hunt for what those early adopters got handed.

The First Edition comes in a large cardboard box with a plastic window showcasing the standard edition game alongside a plush Raiho doll. For the uninitiated, Raiho is the Jack Frost variant decked out in Raidou's detective gear, and having a plush version displayed in that windowed box is the kind of detail that makes SMT collectors weak in the knees. It's charming, it's weird, and it's perfectly on brand for Atlus.

Raidou Kuzunoha vs. King Abaddon itself represents one of the PS2's late-era gems. The Devil Summoner subseries never got the mainstream attention of Persona, which is precisely why collectors gravitate toward it. This was Atlus doing what Atlus does best: making deeply atmospheric RPGs for an audience that actually pays attention. The PS2 era was packed with these kinds of releases, games that flew under the radar at launch but became the pieces serious collectors chase years later.

That windowed box with the Raiho plush has real shelf presence. It's a display piece that communicates you collect with intention, not just volume.
