Tank controls, fixed camera angles, and a vengeful Onryo stalking you through an abandoned Japanese park. The SENSEs: Midnight Collector's Edition for PlayStation 5 is a love letter to the golden age of survival horror, and it wears that devotion on its sleeve with pride. You play as Uesugi Kaho, a college student and occult research club member who takes a dare to investigate the infamous Midnight Door at Ikebukuro Walking Park.

Spoiler: she shouldn't have. What follows is a classically structured survival horror experience with limited inventory management, save points you'll have to earn your way to, and environmental puzzles that carry real risk since solving them might alert the spirits hunting you. The game nails the tension of old-school horror by forcing genuine resource decisions.

Do you backtrack for an item or push forward with what you have? Do you risk a puzzle solution that could bring an Onryo down on you? Every choice matters when hiding spots are your only temporary reprieve.

For collectors, this is a physical PS5 edition of exactly the kind of game that builds cult followings. The survival horror revival has produced plenty of pretenders, but SENSEs: Midnight commits fully to the genre's roots with a Japanese setting that oozes atmosphere. Physical copies of niche horror titles have a well-documented habit of disappearing from shelves and reappearing at collector premiums.

Consider this your advance notice.
