Rainbow Cotton (PS4)
Strictly Limited Games

Cotton's 3D adventure lands on PS4 with a tight print run and a physical disc that matters. Rainbow Cotton Limited Edition for PlayStation 4 is capped at 1,000 individually numbered copies worldwide, a Strictly Limited Games exclusive that puts this formerly Japan-only cute 'em up into the hands of Western collectors on physical media.

The original Rainbow Cotton debuted in 2000 and never left Japan. That two-decade exclusivity is over. This remastered release takes Cotton's arcade-inspired 3D shooting across five stages of enchanting environments, moonlit towns, sunken forests, castles in the clouds, and adds a full graphical overhaul with particle effects and ambient occlusion. The anime cutscenes are fully localized for the first time, which means we finally get to follow Cotton's candy-fueled motivations without a translation guide open on our phones.

Enhanced controls with revamped snap-back and lock-on features make the gameplay feel sharper than the 2000 original, while a dedicated Retro Mode preserves the classic experience for those who want authenticity. A colorful game manual accompanies the disc.

The PS4 generation was the last era where physical disc releases felt like the default rather than the exception. Owning Rainbow Cotton as a numbered Limited Edition on PS4 places it in that sweet spot of gaming history, a console generation that still championed the disc, paired with a game that spent its whole life trapped in one region. One thousand copies isn't a lot. For a game that waited this long for a worldwide release, every single one counts.
