METAGAL Collector's Edition

PS VITA
METAGAL Collector's Edition
East Asia SoftPrint: 1000

Mega Man's influence echoes through decades of platformers, and METAGAL wears that influence with zero shame and total sincerity. The METAGAL Collector's Edition for PS Vita is a 16-bit jump-and-shoot platformer about a cyborg girl fighting through eight levels to save her creator and free her kidnapped sisters from an evil general. Sound familiar? Good. It should.

Meta faces her own sisters, each converted into battle cyborgs by General Creeper, and after defeating them, she copies their abilities. Eight levels with unique environments, 30 enemy types, various bosses, powerful weapons, and secret collectibles give the game genuine replay value. The 16-bit graphics are clean and colorful, and the level design leans into the precise, pattern-based challenge that defined the genre's golden age.

Vita collectors who appreciate games that honor their lineage will find a lot to like here. METAGAL doesn't try to subvert expectations or deconstruct its genre. It simply delivers what jump-and-shoot fans want, executed with care on a handheld that was criminally underserved by major publishers. The collector's edition gives physical form to a title that could have easily remained digital-only and forgotten. Instead, it gets shelf space alongside the Vita's growing library of limited physical indie releases. For those of us who still believe the Vita was the best portable ever made, every new physical title that surfaces is a small act of validation. METAGAL earns its spot.
