Limited Run Games

There's a very specific kind of joy in owning the physical edition of a game that was never supposed to be good. Limited Run #527: Plumbers Don't Wear Ties Definitive Edition for PS4 puts gaming's most infamous "interactive movie" on a region-free physical disc, playable on PS5, and somehow makes a compelling case for why it deserves space on your shelf.

Originally released in 1993 for the 3DO, Plumbers Don't Wear Ties is legendary for all the wrong reasons. It's a slideshow visual novel about a plumber named John and a woman named Jane, featuring production values that make public access television look like Spielberg. The Definitive Edition doesn't try to hide any of this. Instead, it leans in with painstakingly restored content, 4K remastered photos, documentary footage, and interviews featuring leading lady Jeanne Basone. It's a genuine preservation effort for a game that most people only know from YouTube takedowns.

That's the collector's angle here, and it's a strong one. This is a piece of gaming history that shouldn't exist as a premium physical release, and yet here it is, complete with reversible cover art and the full Limited Run treatment. It's the kind of release you put on your shelf specifically because visitors will do a double-take. "Wait, they made a physical edition of THAT?" Yes. Yes they did. And we bought it. Because that's what we do.
