Limited Run Games

The game that made the U.S. Senate clutch its pearls is now a Vita collectible, and the irony is perfect. Limited Run #193: Night Trap Classic Edition for the Vita puts the infamous FMV game on a physical Vita cartridge, limited to 1,400 copies worldwide, region-free.

Night Trap was never really about the gameplay. It was about the moment. The 1992 Sega CD original became a flashpoint in the video game violence debate, leading directly to the creation of the ESRB rating system. It's a piece of gaming history that transcends its own quality, and that's exactly what makes it collectible. The game itself is a campy, charmingly awkward FMV experience about protecting teenagers from vampiric "Augers" by triggering traps in a house rigged with surveillance cameras. It's a time capsule of early-90s ambition.

The Classic Edition includes a Sega CD-style longbox jewel case housing a CD single of the infamous Night Trap theme song, full-color manuals in both Vita and longbox sizes, a set of 10 behind-the-scenes production Polaroid photo reproductions, and a Night Trap logo decal. The Sega CD longbox styling is a perfect nod to the game's origins. Those Polaroid reproductions pull back the curtain on a production that most people only know through congressional testimony clips. At only 1,400 copies, this is the smallest run in this batch, and for a game with this much cultural baggage, scarcity only adds to the mystique.
