Irem Collection Volume 2 Collector's Edition (PlayStation 5)

The team that built the foundation for Metal Slug finally gets the collector's treatment they deserve. The Irem Collection Volume 2 Collector's Edition for PlayStation 5 bundles GunForce, GunForce II, and Air Duel into a premium package limited to 999 individually numbered copies worldwide, and this is the only physical edition available outside of Japan.

The centerpiece here is GunForce II, which has never been released outside of arcades until now. Created by the same staff who went on to develop Metal Slug, it's the missing link in run-and-gun history, and playing it reveals just how much of Metal Slug's DNA was already forming. GunForce, the original, laid the groundwork on SNES and in arcades. Air Duel, a vertical shmup that never left Japanese arcades, rounds out the trio for its first-ever worldwide console appearance.

The Collector's Edition packaging is serious. A premium box with magnetic latch in retro 4:3 art style, a visual compendium combining game guide and art book, the original soundtracks for all three games on 3 CDs, a collector's coin (the second of five in the Irem Collection series), marquee stickers, reversible posters, a DIY reproduction of the GunForce SNES packaging, and faithful reprints of original arcade flyers.

This is arcade preservation meets collector obsession. Three historically significant Irem titles, two of them getting their first-ever home console releases, wrapped in the kind of package that justifies clearing premium shelf space.
