inFAMOUS 2 (bundle)

Forget the game for a second. We need to talk about these controllers. The inFAMOUS 2 bundle on PlayStation 3 shipped with custom DualShock 3 controllers in two variants that remain some of the most visually striking hardware pieces from the entire PS3 generation. Semi-transparent red "Crimson" and semi-transparent blue "Cosmic" casings turned standard Sony controllers into genuine display pieces.

These semi-transparent shells call back to a proud tradition in gaming hardware. Nintendo did it with the Funtastic N64, Sony did it with various PS1 variants, and here it returned for the PS3 era with an inFAMOUS twist. The red and blue colorways directly mirror the game's karma system, good versus evil, hero versus infamous. It's thematic hardware design at its best, where the controller itself tells you something about the game it's paired with.

From a collector's standpoint, bundled hardware variants are always worth watching. They ship in smaller numbers than standalone controllers, they're tied to a specific game's launch window, and they tend to disappear from the market faster than anyone expects.
